Central air conditioning and heating systems over 10 years old can cost more in repairs, maintenance and energy costs than the cooling system is worth. Central air replacement and heat pump replacement can boost your homes energy efficiency. Would you like to learn more about tax credit for central air replacement? Give us a call today for more information on the $500 federal residential energy tax credit.
Part of the latest stimulus bill (The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) includes a tax credit available or homeowners that make their homes more energy efficient. High efficiency air conditioning and heating are one of those efficiency improvements.
You can receive a credit of 30% of the cost up to a maximum credit of $500.00. A professional contractor like Lone Star Mechanical must install the air conditioning units.
There are certain energy efficiency requirements tied to the tax credit. Air conditioning systems must have a 16 seer rating and a 13 EER rating and/or 95% AFUE efficiency furnace. Not all equipment meets these requirements. The tax credit is good between January 2011 and December 2011. This tax credit is available even if you participated in prior energy efficiency programs (i.e. 2006 energy efficiency tax credit).
Replace your cooling system with a new high efficiency air conditioner meeting Energy Star standards. SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings are also useful guidelines. The higher the number the better. Today’s new systems must be rated 13 SEER or higher. Fan-only switches save money during sleeping hours.

Central air conditioning systems use a series of ducts to circulate air throughout your home or office. Often these ducts are under the floor or above the ceiling. When cooled air passes through ducts in non-cooled spaces, moisture can form on and in the ducts as condensation. Just like a sweating tea glass, moisture gathers on the ducts and drips off. All air ducts must be sealed and insulated to prevent condensation. Before installation, we will make sure the ductwork in your home is adequate for the system you are installing.
Central air conditioning systems need a thermostat to regulate the indoor temperature. The thermostat must be calibrated for accuracy and system efficiency. It is also necessary to balance the duct system using a series of grills or dampers. Your friends at Lone Star Mechanical can explain these important details to you.
We know your home or office is your space and we respect that. Our installers will leave the job site clean and will always respect your privacy. Be sure to ask about an annual HVAC maintenance plan to protect your investment and keep your air conditioning system running at peak efficiency.
